A braai for family and friends turned into a nightmare for twin brothers Siyabonga and Bonga Ngcobo, who were shot dead while buying alcohol at a local tavern in KZN on Sunday evening.

The 35-year-old brothers were confronted by a few armed men who opened fire at them without apparent reason, according to their friend who was with them in Ezimangweni, Inanda, north of Durban. They were shot multiple times and died on the scene. The motive for the killing is unknown, and the police are investigating the case. No arrests have been made yet.

 

How The Twin Brothers Got Shot

Siyabonga lived in Isipingo and visited his twin, Bonga, for the long weekend. They decided to host a braai on Sunday and have a good time. They went to buy alcohol with a friend at the local tavern around 7 p.m. but never returned.

The twins’ brother Babongile recounted the tragedy to ZiMoja, as the friend at the scene reported. He said the friend was inside the tavern when the twins argued with a group of men. As he asked what the issue was, and instantly, the men fired shots at the twins.

Babongile said:

“He said he enquired why they were shooting his friends, but they didn’t respond. They shot the brothers several times, later demanding his car keys, and fled the scene. It was raining, and their blood was just flowing with the water. Siyabonga was shot nine times, while Bonga was shot seven times. This was a clear hit. The way they shot at them; they were killing them.”

Police Confirm Heartbreaking Shooting

KZN SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala confirmed the fatal shooting:

“Inanda police are investigating two counts of murder following an incident in which two siblings aged 35-years-old were fatally shot by unknown people on 24 September 2023 at Ezimangweni area. The victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The motive for the killing is unknown.”
