As South African celebrities celebrated their honorary doctorates, Minister of Higher Education Blade Nzimande jumped to clip their joyful wings, saying they were fake.

The latest buzz around the honorary doctorate from Trinity International Bible University sent shockwaves. Nzimande disclosed that the institution is not legitimate, lacks registration and thus has zero authority to grant qualifications.
The minister also expressed concern over the persistent disregard for the department’s regulations by the Trinity International Bible University management and mentioned that the department is considering more comprehensive and decisive action against them.
Sello quoted a Bible verse and expressed joy over the recognition when he received the distinguished degree. He humorously remarked that his wife, Pearl Mbewe Maake KaNcube, is no longer travelling through life with just a national treasure but with an honourable doctor.
After Minister Nzimande burst his bubble, he retorted:
“To all those who felt like they had something to say, here is my official response. Mess plus Age gives you a MESSAGE! Keep listening. Keeping watching. Life has a funny way of turning lemons. No matter your situation or circumstances, you have the ability to rise above them. God willing, we all shall conquer.”
Sello isn’t the lone victim of this scam.

Elizabeth Serunye, known for her role in Skeem Saam, proudly announced her doctorate from the same institution on 20 April 2024, joining the ranks of those deceived.
“Honour me as Dr Sikasu Serunye,” Elizabeth beamed.
Deborah Fraser, the iconic gospel musician who passed away in 2022, was conferred with a doctorate of philosophy from Trinity International Bible University in October 2021.
Winnie Mashaba, another gospel luminary, also received an honorary doctorate in 2019 for her contributions to music. Despite her excitement, the truth behind the institution surfaced, leaving her announcement now deleted.
