Herman Mashaba- ‘No Malawian Government Official Should Set Foot In SA’

Former Johannesburg Mayor and ActionSA leader, Herman Mashaba, has said no Malawian government official should set foot in South Africa until they extradite the leader of the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church, Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, who is facing charges related to corruption and money laundering worth over R100 million.

“The fault lays with the South African government this is an embarrassment to the entire nation, am embarrassed of my country.

Moreover, this makes the country to lose the respect of everyone. Is it difficult for us to ensure that everyone in this country should respect the laws of this country, is it that difficult for Home Affairs to do their job? No Malawian government official should set foot in this country until this issue is resolved because I don’t see any reason why South Africa should continue having cordial relations with a country that is protecting a criminal,” said Mashaba.

However, Malawian Information Minister and governmental spokesperson, Gospel Kazako, has since said the South African government should not rush the Malawian government.

“The Bushiris are still in the hands of the Police in Police custody, hopefully today they will appear before Court. Moreover, this government has been blamed by the South African media for delaying the extradition process we don’t work with emotions we had to wait for the proper due process to transpire. The case is now in the hands of the Court, we as government don’t want to interfere.

Moreso, questions are being asked by the South African media on whether or not we are willing to hand over Prophet Bushiri, it’s not about our level of willingness but it’s about the rule of law it’s not about us that’s not how the law operates in Malawi. We don’t want to rush we want to move step by step, whatever the Court verdict then we will communicate,” said the Minister.
