“I didn’t mean to say it” Racist Facebook ranter apologises

A man who went on a racist rant on social media has apologised for what he wrote and says, “I didn’t mean to say it”.

Matthew Theunissen took to Facebook to express his anger over Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula’s announcement that he had banned the country’s cricket, rugby, netball and athletics bodies from bidding for, or hosting, major sporting events due to a lack of transformation.

“So no more sporting events for South Africa… I’ve never been more proud than to say our government are a bunch of KAFFIRS.. yes I said it so go fuck yourselves you black fucking cunts,” Theunissen wrote.

Speaking to CapeTalk presenter John Maytham on Tuesday afternoon, the 26-year-old apologised and said he was aware that he had used “hurtful language” and that he didn’t mean to offend anyone.

He also claimed that he was not a racist and had “plenty of friends of colour”.

Theunissen claimed he immediately deleted the status which showed that he didn’t mean what he had written.

But Maytham countered that Theunissen must have meant it, which was why he had written it in the first place.

Theunissen tried to explain that it had been written in anger.

“Do we not all do different things when we’re feeling different emotions?”

His name trended on Twitter from Monday afternoon and Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille had approached the SA Human Rights Commission to ask that the matter be investigated.
