Former SAA Chairperson and Jacob Zuma Foundation Chair Dudu Myeni Dies at 58

Dudu Myeni, the former chairperson of South African Airways (SAA) and the Jacob Zuma Foundation, has passed away.

The Jacob Zuma Foundation confirmed her death, announcing that she died on Friday night following a prolonged battle with cancer.

Jacob Zuma Foundation Confirms Myeni’s Passing

Mzwanele Manyi, spokesperson for the Jacob Zuma Foundation, expressed the organization’s sorrow stating:

The foundation confirms with a heavy heart that its chairperson, Dudu Myeni, passed on last night (Friday). The family is still dealing with these sad developments and will not be entertaining any media enquiries. The foundation is requesting the media to respect the family position.”

Myeni Faced Corruption Charges Amid Health Crisis

Myeni’s death comes while she was embroiled in a significant legal battle. She faced corruption charges at the South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg. Her last court appearance saw her case postponed to November 21, 2024, due to her health issues.

Arrested in Bosasa Scandal, Released on Bail Amid Health Issues

In September 2023, Myeni was arrested alongside former Sondolo IT Director Trevor Matsemela on charges related to the Bosasa scandal, which included allegations of accepting R300,000 in bribes from Bosasa and its subsidiary, Sondolo IT. Both were released on R10,000 bail but were unable to attend court proceedings in May due to Myeni’s treatment for cancer.
