A Johannesburg School Employee has been Arrested Over Alleged Rape of A Grade 2 Pupil.

A general assistant at Johannesburg’s Laerskool Dalmondeor has been taken into custody following disturbing allegations of sexually assaulting a second-grade student. The Gauteng Department of Education confirmed the incident reportedly occurred in a school cloakroom the previous Wednesday.

School Employee Arrested For Rape Of Grade 2 Pupil

The accused remains in police custody after his arrest this Tuesday and will be suspended from his position while investigations continue. Authorities acted after the victim’s mother filed an official report at Mondeor police station on the day of the alleged assault.

School Unaware Initially

Department spokesperson Steve Mabona revealed the school administration only learned about the allegations when police arrived to make the arrest nearly a week after the incident. “Police are thoroughly investigating to determine all facts surrounding this case,” Mabona stated.

Department’s Strong Stance

The education department emphasised its zero-tolerance policy regarding learner safety, stressing that such serious allegations receive immediate priority. Education MEC Matome Chiloane expressed profound distress that such trauma could occur in what should be a secure learning environment.

Disturbing Timing During Awareness Campaign

The incident occurred during Child Protection Week, a national initiative promoting children’s rights and safety. Chiloane noted the tragic irony, calling it “a stark reminder of the critical need to enhance safety protocols in educational institutions.”

Recent Similar Case

This follows another troubling incident in March where a Nal’ibali practitioner allegedly assaulted a third-grade learner at Braamfischerville Primary School, reported by a concerned parent. The case has raised concerns from public figures who are advocating for the perpetrator to be arrested.

Authorities urge anyone with additional information to come forward as investigations continue.
