Jacob Zuma’s ‘Sister’ Judy Zuma Is Sentenced to 12 Years for Selling Fake Passports to Foreigners
Mzansi has been left reeling after the news that Judith Salome Zuma, a former Department of Home Affairs official, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for selling 192 passports illegally. Some South Africans have speculated about a connection between Judy Zuma and former President Jacob Zuma due to their shared surname.
Judy Zuma was sentenced by the Durban Specialised Commercial Crimes court last Thursday.
Zuma’s Illegal Passport Scheme Uncovered
Zuma was arrested in December 2021 and charged with corruption, fraud, and violations of the Identification Act and Immigration Act. An investigation by the Hawks and the Department of Home Affairs revealed that Zuma was part of a criminal network, exploiting vulnerable South Africans by charging between R300 and R500 to obtain fingerprints that were then used to procure illegal passports for foreign nationals.
These fraudulent activities were carried out at the Durban Home Affairs office during off-hours and on weekends. Investigations showed that Zuma received R4,000 for each fake passport issued, amassing a total of R768,000 from the 192 illegal passports.
After her scheme was uncovered, Zuma attempted to bribe another Home Affairs official who was investigating her, offering a R10,000 bribe to look the other way.
