The embarrassing incident may have gone unnoticed if it weren’t for a local newspaper reporter who happened to be voting in the next booth. Suzanna Everett, a politics correspondent for a local newspaper witnessed the entire ordeal and crafted a cunning scheme to make it public.

When Imzansi reporters contacted Malema, his phone was initially answered by his his wife who reluctantly gave the phone to her husband. Malema was apologetic and said : “I have let my party down and really feel like they feel let down. I do not know how it happened and I think it’s because I have voted for ANC all my life so it’s a case of old habits. One votes won’t change the outcome though ”
