Ex-Kaizer Chiefs Star Abia Nale Risks Losing Home Over R400K Debt

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Abia Nale is facing the possibility of losing his luxurious Vanderbijlpark home over an unpaid debt of over R400,000.

Standard Bank Moves to Recover Outstanding Debt

According to MDN News, the 38-year-old ex-footballer is locked in a legal battle with Standard Bank, which has initiated action to auction Nale’s home in a bid to recover the outstanding amount. Reports indicate the debt arose from an overdraft facility, and Nale had previously agreed to settle the amount through monthly payments of R21,000.

A Career Once on the Rise

Nale enjoyed a prominent career in South African football, particularly after making a high-profile move to Kaizer Chiefs from Golden Arrows in 2009. During his time with the Soweto giants, he made 81 appearances and scored seven goals. His journey in professional football also saw him loaned to Ajax Cape Town and Mpumalanga Black Aces, with later stints at Maritzburg United, Platinum Stars, and Bizana Pondo Chiefs before retiring.

Social Media Reacts

The situation has sparked mixed reactions online, with many expressing concern over Abia Nale’s financial struggles. While some believe he should cut his losses by selling the property and settling the R400,000 debt, others have pointed to a deeper issue—lack of financial planning among footballers.

Many feel that football clubs should do more to educate players about money management, suggesting that financial literacy and investment seminars should be standard for all professionals.

Amid the criticism, a few fans have even called for Kaizer Chiefs supporters to come together and raise funds to help the former star.

He must sell the house, pay the 400k and get something small. His house is too big and costly

@Muruti6;

Banks takes advantage of soccer players and artists, how can they sign long term loan with soccer players and artists knowing very well that their career are not guarantee but they sign 20yrs long term loan for house bond.

@sadneysloa;

Every football team should give money management courses to it’s players.. invite investment companies to give lectures
