Early Life and Education

Katlego Maboe, a prominent figure in the South African entertainment industry, has left an indelible mark with his multifaceted talents. Despite pursuing a degree in Chartered Accounting at North-West University in 2007, his artistic flair for music and stage hosting was evident even during his college years.

Fluent in Afrikaans, English, and Setswana, Katlego’s linguistic abilities are impressive. He ventured into music early, joining the North West Children’s Choir in 1998. His passion for singing persisted, leading him to become a singer and beatboxer for the South African acapella boy band, Flip A Coin, during his college years.

Family and Upbringing

Born on October 29, 1986, in Ikageng township near Potchefstroom, South Africa, Katlego Maboe faced challenges early on with his parent’s divorce. Raised by his single mother Beauty Maboe, a teacher, and his loving grandparents, he found a father figure in his late uncle. Alongside his two sisters, they provided a supportive environment that fueled his ambitions.

Thriving Television Career

Standing at 5’10″ (178cm), Katlego possesses both the physical presence and the communication skills that make him a standout television personality. His journey in the television industry began in 2009 when he became part of a program by the lifestyle magazine DEKAT. This led to co-hosting roles on the SABC2 show, 50/50, and the SABC3 Expresso Breakfast Show.

Katlego’s versatile talents didn’t stop there. He hosted various television events, including the South African Film and Television Awards, Afrikaanse Taal- en Kultuurvereniging (ATKV), Tropika Island of Treasure, Huisgenoot Tempo Toekennings, and Strictly Come Dancing. Despite his flourishing entertainment career, it’s worth noting that Katlego is a trained chartered accountant.

His achievements include winning Best TV Presenter at the South African Film and Television Awards in 2015 and 2016, with a 2021 nomination that was impacted by an ongoing court case.

Court Case and Setbacks

In 2020, Katlego Maboe faced serious accusations related to infidelity and abuse from his former partner, Monique Muller, and her brother Seth Muller. These allegations led to his suspension from the Expresso Show and the termination of his association with OUTsurance.

However, after a two-year legal battle, the court ruled in Katlego’s favour. The magistrate dismissed all allegations of misconduct, citing no grounds for the protection order.

Triumphant Comeback

Undeterred by the setbacks, Katlego Maboe is making a triumphant return to the limelight. He hosted the Nedbank International Polo at the Inanda Club in April 2023 and announced his participation in The Wellness Plug podcast alongside Linda Majola and Dr Tshidi Gule.

Katlego is now back on SABC 3’s Expresso and hosts Deal Or No Deal. Furthermore, he was chosen to host the Metro FM Awards and has taken on the role of presenter for Tropika Island of Treasures.
