Kenny Kunene Refuses to Apologise, Prepares Defence Against Malema Lawsuit
Patriotic Alliance (PA) deputy president Kenny Kunene has vowed to fight a R1 million defamation lawsuit filed by Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema, signalling another escalation in their long-running political feud.
Kunene has refused to apologise for controversial remarks he made earlier this year, instead indicating that he is ready to defend himself in court with witnesses and supporting affidavits.

Podcast Remarks at Centre of Dispute
According to Kaya959, the legal dispute stems from comments Kunene made during a February 2026 appearance on Podcast and Chill with MacG. During the interview, Kunene alleged that Malema lives at a property linked to businessman Adriano Mazzotti and hosts meetings there involving individuals he described as “cartel members.”
Malema’s legal team argues that these claims are defamatory and damaging to his reputation.
Controversy Over ‘Boy’ Remark
A key element of the lawsuit is Kunene’s use of the term “boy” when referring to Malema. The EFF leader’s lawyers contend that the term carries racial connotations rooted in apartheid-era language and is therefore offensive.
However, Kunene has dismissed the accusation, arguing that the claim of racism is unfounded and reflects desperation on Malema’s part.
Kunene Hits Back
Speaking in an interview on Point of View with Phemelo Motene, Kunene defended his comments and accused Malema of hypocrisy.
He claimed he was responding to previous attacks from Malema, including criticism over his association with businessman KT Molefe. Kunene further argued that Malema’s actions contradict his public political stance, citing his use of legal and professional services.
Kunene also described the lawsuit as an abuse of the court process, noting that this is the third time Malema has taken legal action against him.

The latest legal clash underscores a deeply entrenched rivalry between the two politicians, marked by repeated public spats and court battles. Previous disputes between Kunene and Malema have included allegations of hate speech and defamation.
