BOSA’s Push for Higher Standards in Education
While matriculants celebrate their accomplishments, the Build One South Africa (BOSA) party, led by Mmusi Maimane, has sparked a conversation about raising the bar for educational standards. The party has called on the government to increase the minimum matric pass mark from the current standard to 50%.
Maimane shared his views on social media, stating:
“A pass should be 50%. This means that the certificate pass should be 6 subjects at 50%. A diploma pass should be 6 subjects at 60%. A bachelor’s pass should be 6 subjects at 70%.”
BOSA has even launched a petition urging the Minister of Basic Education, Siviwe Gwarube, to adopt these proposed changes. According to the party, improving the pass mark is essential for equipping South African youth to thrive in the global economy.
