Two pilots have been confirmed dead in two separate crashes in KZN. The devastating news brings a heartbreaking end to a multi-day search effort that gripped the province. The second aircraft was located in the early hours of Thursday morning, following the discovery of the first wreckage a day prior near Nottingham Road. Both pilots were declared deceased at their respective crash sites, confirming the worst fears of officials and families alike.
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport and Human Settlements, which coordinated the response, confirmed the grim findings. Department spokesperson, Ndabezinhle Sibiya, provided the official update, stating,
“We received a report from the Aeronautical Search and Rescue Co-ordination Centre and the SAPS Search and Rescue Unit indicating that they have found the second aircraft. Unfortunately, the pilot suffered fatal injuries.”
The two aircraft had both been reported missing earlier in the week after taking off from Secunda Airport, with one of the flights destined for Margate Regional Airport.

The MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma, praised the teams for their unwavering commitment under challenging circumstances.
In a statement expressing the department’s profound sorrow, MEC Duma extended his sympathies to the bereaved families. He was quoted saying,
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of both pilots and extend our heartfelt condolences to their families. We pray that God gives them strength during this difficult time.”
The department has assured the public that the relevant authorities, including the Accidents and Incidents Investigations Division, have been activated to probe the circumstances leading to these twin tragedies.
