Knife Held to Her Throat

The woman, believed to have been intoxicated at the time, admitted to spending the R350 grant on alcohol. The confession sparked a violent reaction. According to witnesses and reports, the man became aggressive and allegedly assaulted her.

In a chilling turn, he reportedly brandished a knife and held it to her throat during the confrontation. In a desperate attempt to defend herself, the woman grabbed the blade and suffered a deep laceration to her hand.

Despite the severity of the assault, the woman chose not to open a criminal case against her partner. Authorities noted that the suspect was still at the scene when officers arrived but no arrest was made due to the victim’s refusal to lay charges.

Grant Misuse and Gender-Based Violence in Focus

The incident has once again brought attention to ongoing concerns over the misuse of social relief grants and the persistent issue of gender-based violence in South Africa.
