Legal Beatdown: DJ Maphorisa Throws Tantrum, Fires His Legal Squad In Thuli Phongolo Assault Case
Producer and disk spinner DJ Maphorisa has reportedly fired his legal team after a disagreement over his assault case involving former Generations actress Thuli Phongolo.
The Blaqboy Music boss is accused of beating and strangling Phongolo during an argument at her home in Sandton in May this year.
DJ Maphorisa Fires Legal Team Out Of Frustration
According to a source who spoke to Sunday World, DJ Maphorisa, whose real name is Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe, was unhappy with his lawyers for agreeing with the National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) proposal for him to attend anger management courses.
The source said that the DJ felt that this would deprive him of a chance to prove that he is innocent in court and to the public.

DJ Maphorisa was granted R4 000 bail by the Randburg Magistrate’s Court after his arrest over the dramatic assault.
In May, he allegedly punched Phongolo on her chest, slapped her across the face, and grabbed her by the neck on the balcony. The incident allegedly happened after a man made advances at Phongolo and offered to send her R40 000 at one of DJ Maphorisa’s gigs the night before.
Phongolo filed a withdrawal statement the day after the arrest, but the NPA said that it needed more time to investigate the matter. The case was postponed in July and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions. DJ Maphorisa is expected to appear in court soon to find out if he will be prosecuted or not.
The couple released a joint statement in May, saying that they wanted to deal with the matter privately and that they had resolved their issues. However, it seems that the legal drama is far from over for DJ Maphorisa, who is also known for his collaborations with international stars like Wizkid and Drake.
