Shock as Lekompo Singer Dr Nel Found Dead in Limpopo
In a tragic development that has sent shockwaves through Limpopo’s music community, Lekompo singer and producer Molimisi “Dr Nel” Baatsi has been found dead on a village road in Ga-Seleka.
Police have since launched a culpable homicide investigation into his death.

Body Discovered in Early Morning Hours
According to Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, officers in Tom Burke were alerted to a body lying along Phetogo Drive at around 04:00 a.m. on Sunday, 2 November 2025.
“On arrival, they found the Tshwara Fase hitmaker lying face down. Paramedics from Witpoort Emergency Services declared him dead at the scene,” Ledwaba said.
Police are still piecing together what happened in the hours leading up to the artist’s death.
Final Moments Captured on Facebook Live
Preliminary investigations reveal that Dr Nel had performed hours earlier at the grand opening of a local pub. His last Facebook Live video, posted shortly before his death, showed him entertaining fans with his signature high-energy performance.
Authorities say a post-mortem examination will determine the exact cause of death as investigations continue.
“Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is urged to contact Detective Sergeant Lesiba Tsebe,” Colonel Ledwaba added.
Limpopo Music Scene in Mourning
Dr Nel, known for his popular tracks “Tshwara Fase” and “Leoto La Mpete,” had been a rising star in the Lekompo genre, celebrated for his vibrant stage presence and commitment to promoting local music.
News of his death has devastated fans and fellow artists across Limpopo, many describing him as a talented performer who had only begun to make his mark in the industry.
