Limpopo artists have stepped forward to shoulder the funeral costs for the late Caven Masetla, known to his legion of fans as the talented DJ Poizen. The Limpopo Artists Movement (LAM) has confirmed it is in direct talks with the grieving family to provide a comprehensive funeral package, ensuring the DJ is laid to rest with dignity.
Mpho “Mphoza” Mashabela, the provincial chairperson of LAM, expressed the collective heartbreak of the province’s music scene. He stated,
“We have engaged the family to discuss the funeral arrangements, and at the moment we are looking at some possibilities, including getting them a full funeral package. This will serve as a token of our commitment to help artists in the province.” He added poignantly, “After the death of DJ Sumbody, we were looking forward to emerging musicians such as DJ Poizen to lift Limpopo’s flag high, and now this.”

The devastating loss has also resonated deeply with the DJ’s closest friends and collaborators. Karabo Rabjanyana, the artist known as Alphatic, whose hit ‘Abadi bone’ (They Haven’t Built) was mixed by DJ Poizen, described the pain as unbearable. “
The untimely death of DJ Poizen is like a sharp sword that pieces through the heart. Even now I can’t believe the news of his passing because I spoke to him few days ago,” he shared.
Rabjanyana detailed a bond that stretched back to their earliest days.
“We have done almost everything together as kids, and even our music journey started at the same time under one mentor around 2005,” he revealed.
Their partnership continued into adulthood, with Rabjanyana recalling,
“We even shared my room in Soweto for four months in 2012 when he came to Johannesburg to look for greener pastures and together, we collaborated when we did the remix for the DJ Fresh song, Cherrie.”

A Tragic End After a Night of Performance
The vibrant life of the 33-year-old from Tickeyline village outside Tzaneen was tragically cut short in the early hours of Saturday. The vehicle he was travelling in was involved in a catastrophic head-on collision, claiming his life and those of four others instantly. It is understood that DJ Poizen and a fellow musician, DJ Chymamusique, were returning from two separate performances in Mokopane and Mankweng outside Polokwane when the accident occurred. The LAM organisation has also announced plans to convene and discuss arrangements for a memorial service to honour their fallen hero.
