A Limpopo man murdered his pregnant girlfriend just a month after she withdrew assault charges against him.

The 31-year-old man is in police custody following the brutal killing of his 23-year-old pregnant girlfriend in the Leeufontein RDP settlement. The victim, who was approximately four months pregnant, was discovered with multiple fatal stab wounds on Wednesday morning.

Disturbing History of Violence Emerges

Authorities revealed a deeply troubling pattern of prior abuse in the relationship. The deceased had previously taken legal action against the suspect, filing an assault charge earlier this year. The man was subsequently arrested in May 2025 and made several court appearances in Groblersdal related to these allegations.

Tragically, the victim later submitted a formal request to withdraw the charges, a decision that led to the suspect’s release from custody in July 2025. This withdrawal ultimately preceded the horrific incident that claimed her life.

Community Alert Leads to Gruesome Discovery

The latest attack came to light when local residents alerted police to an injured woman within the community. Upon arrival, officers discovered the young woman lying in a pool of blood, having sustained numerous critical injuries. Emergency medical personnel pronounced her deceased at the scene.

Preliminary investigations quickly established that the victim had been in a romantic relationship with the primary suspect, who had fled the area following the violent attack.

Swift Arrest Follows Manhunt

Through coordinated investigative efforts, police received intelligence regarding the alleged perpetrator’s whereabouts. Acting on this information, authorities located and apprehended the 31-year-old suspect in Elandskraal on Wednesday morning.

Lt-Gen Thembi Hadebe, Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, issued a strong condemnation of the continuing violence directed toward women and children throughout the region.

The detained suspect is scheduled to face murder charges before the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
