A Limpopo woman is facing murder charges after choking her three-month-old baby to death.

The shocking case of infant homicide has emerged from Limpopo province, where authorities have detained a 20-year-old woman for the alleged murder of a three-month-old baby boy.

According to provincial police reports, the horrific incident occurred in Mundzedzi village when the suspect, reportedly a family member of the deceased, was alone with the infant indoors.

Two witnesses who were outside the dwelling became concerned and entered to check on the child.

“Upon investigation, the witnesses allegedly discovered the suspect choking the helpless infant,” stated police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba. “They immediately intervened and transported the baby to Vleifontein clinic for emergency care.”

Infant Pronounced Dead at Medical Facility

Medical personnel at the clinic confirmed the tragic outcome, declaring the infant deceased upon arrival. Preliminary examinations suggested the child succumbed to asphyxiation injuries sustained during the alleged attack.

Police swiftly opened a murder investigation which led to the apprehension of the suspect. “We have registered a murder case and taken the alleged perpetrator into custody,” Ledwaba confirmed.

Legal Proceedings Underway

Authorities indicate the motive behind this disturbing act remains unclear as investigations continue. The detained woman is scheduled to appear before the Makhado Magistrate’s Court in the coming days to face formal murder charges.
