Woman Arrested for Killing Police Officer in Eastern Cape
A 37-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the murder of an off-duty police officer in Khwenxurha, Slastsha.
The incident occurred on the evening of Saturday, 15 June 2025, following a domestic dispute that turned violent.
Dispute Turns Deadly Over Alleged Infidelity
According to authorities, the deceased, a 50-year-old police officer, was spending the evening drinking with his girlfriend — who is now the prime suspect — at her homestead. At around 21:00, an argument reportedly broke out after the officer expressed intentions to leave for another part of the village.
The woman, now in custody, allegedly accused him of planning to visit another girlfriend. The quarrel escalated when the victim insulted her, prompting her to strike him multiple times on the head with a knobkerrie, a traditional weapon, leaving him unconscious.

Suspect Surrenders and Claims Unawareness
On the morning of 16 June, the woman voluntarily surrendered to police. She informed officers that the two had fought the night before and that she later found him unresponsive. Investigators arrived at the scene and discovered the victim lying on his back with visible head wounds — both on the front and back of the skull — and bruising on his right arm.
Charges and Ongoing Investigation
The suspect has been officially charged with murder and defeating the ends of justice, the latter stemming from allegations that she tampered with evidence at the scene. The knobkerrie used in the assault was recovered and has been sent for forensic analysis.
Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing as they piece together the events leading to the fatal altercation.
