Makgotso Monyemorathoe spent her early years in Katlehong, South Africa, and attended Alberview Primary School in Alberton. Her heritage includes a blend of Zulu from her mother’s side and Pedi from her father’s side. In 2003, at the age of eleven, she moved to England with her mother and sister, eventually becoming a naturalized British citizen. During her time in England, she developed a passion for drama, participating in school productions and local clubs. She pursued A Levels in Theatre Studies, Media, and Psychology and later studied Theatre and Film Studies at Brunel University London. Her experiences with the National Youth Theatre furthered her education and skills.

Acting Career

Makgotso M‘s career in entertainment began in 2014 when she made a guest appearance in the third season of “My Perfect Family” on SABC1. Her film debut came in 2015 with “Ayanda,” directed by Sara Blecher. In 2016, she ventured into soap operas with roles in “Isidingo” as Kamogelo Tsotetsi and “Muvhango” as Onika. However, her role as Tishiwe in the Mzansi Magic teen drama “Is’Thunzi” in October 2016 gained her significant recognition.

She continued to expand her career in 2019 with a main role as Moipone Molopo in the Showmax mystery miniseries “The Girl from St. Agnes.” Her versatility was evident as she took on a supporting role in the BET+ original “A Royal Surprise.” In 2022, Makgotso M was cast in the historical epic film “The Woman King,” directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and produced by Viola Davis, marking another milestone in her career.
