Award-winning South African music sensation Makhadzi has publicly slammed a recent news report alleging she is on the brink of having her assets seized over an unpaid tax debt. The original story, published by City Press, claimed the artist owes STT Holding a sum of R200,000 for services that allegedly reduced a significant tax debt from R6 million to R2 million . The report further stated that a writ of execution had been secured by the company, granting permission to auction her property after a legal battle spanning two years.

In a fiery retort delivered on her official X account, Makhadzi vehemently denied the claims and turned the tables on the publication. She challenged the outlet’s motives and demanded equal coverage for her positive career developments.

“At least lies must be added with the truth, and whoever published this still thinks we are still in 2010, where you can just wake up and DAMAGE an artist’s image by lies, knowing very well, they can’t defend themselves.” She concluded her post with a powerful cultural rebuke, saying, “All I want to say is respect is beautiful. Leskar nyatsa (look with respect). How can you wake up and just write lies?”

The public response to her post was immediate and overwhelmingly supportive. One fan, @SHEZNEYLETHU, celebrated her unique communication style, joking,

The Show Must Go On

Amidst the online furore, Makhadzi remains steadfastly focused on her music and her fans. She directly promoted her upcoming major events within her rebuttal, signalling that her professional commitments are her primary concern.

With the controversy swirling around her, the Limpopo-born star is channelling her energy into preparing for her highly anticipated ‘One Woman Show’, scheduled for the 20th and 21st of December at Makhuvha and Ha Rabali Stadiums. The incident has clearly not dimmed her spirit, as she continues to prioritise her craft and connection with her audience.
