Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies Coach Suspended Amid Serious Allegations
Mamelodi Sundowns has suspended Jerry Shabalala, the coach of their women’s team, amid allegations of sexual harassment, emotional abuse, and inappropriate relationships with players.
Serious Allegations Emerge Against Longtime Coach
Shabalala, who has led Sundowns Ladies since 2012 and enjoyed significant success with the team, now faces serious scrutiny. Anonymous reports from players and staff have surfaced, accusing the 44-year-old of misconduct.
Among the allegations, Shabalala is accused of making explicit sexual remarks to players and female staff. Reports claim he asked inappropriate questions about players’ private grooming habits and made comments about their bodies.
He is also alleged to have entered the changing rooms while players were undressed and refused to leave, even when they were fully naked.
Club Launches Investigation
In a statement released on Saturday, Mamelodi Sundowns acknowledged the allegations and emphasized their seriousness. The club has engaged a top law firm, Bowmans, to conduct a thorough investigation into the claims.
“The final findings will be reported to the board as soon as possible,” the statement read. “In the meantime, coach Jerry Shabalala has been placed on special leave to allow the investigation to proceed smoothly while safeguarding the rights of all parties involved.”
The club clarified that the decision to suspend Shabalala is not a judgment on the allegations but a precautionary measure to ensure fairness and transparency in the investigation.
Mamelodi Sundowns promised to update the public on the outcome of the investigation and any actions to be taken. “We take these allegations very seriously and are committed to ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all our players and staff,” the club added.
