Man Arrested Hours After Hijacking Off-Duty Durban Police Officers
A 34-year-old man was arrested just hours after allegedly hijacking two off-duty police officers in Avoca Hills, Durban. The suspect reportedly stole their service pistols and ammunition during the incident.

Hijacking in Avoca Hills
The hijacking occurred on Thursday evening at Courtown Crescent in Avoca Hills.
According to IOL, the victims, two police officers stationed at the Greenwood Park police station, were held at gunpoint and robbed of their firearms and vehicle.

Swift Police Action Leads to Arrest
Provincial police spokesperson Robert Nethsuinda commended the rapid response of a multidisciplinary team led by Greenwood Park police station’s Visible Policing Commander.
“Swift reaction by a multidisciplinary team led to the arrest of a 34-year-old suspect shortly after the incident,” Nethsuinda confirmed.
Following a tip-off, police tracked the suspect to Newton A in Inanda, where he was apprehended.
Weapons and Vehicle Recovered
During the arrest, authorities recovered the stolen service pistols, loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition. A search of the suspect’s residence revealed two additional unlicensed firearms with 12 rounds of ammunition.
The hijacked vehicle was also successfully recovered during the operation.
Court Appearance Scheduled
The suspect is set to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday, November 18, 2024. He faces multiple charges, including robbery and hijacking.
Barberton Detectives Arrested for Alleged Theft from Zama Zama Boss
Meanwhile, in a separate case, four Barberton detectives from Mpumalanga have been arrested. The officers — Sgt DP Mahlangu (47), Sgt MS Ndlovu (49), Sgt B Dlamini (40), and Sgt D Zulu (42) — reportedly raided a zama zama boss’s home and stole R1.8 million.
They are facing charges of theft and obstructing the course of justice. The detectives have been remanded in custody until their bail application on November 19, 2024.
