A 41-year-old man has been arrested in Mpumalanga after police discovered 1.4kg of crystal meth concealed between the pages of two books wrapped in decorative paper.
The arrest was made along the N4 near Kaapmuiden on Saturday morning after officers received a tip-off about a suspicious man standing next to the road.

Books Contained Compressed Crystal Meth
Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane said the patrolling officer searched the man’s bag and found two neatly wrapped books.
“Upon opening the books, he discovered white compressed substances. The officer then asked the man if he knew what the content was,” Ndubane said.
Police later confirmed that the drugs weighed 1.455 kilogrammes and carried an estimated street value of about R350,000.
Suspect Claims Stranger Forced Him Into Courier Job
According to police, the suspect claimed he did not know what the books contained. He alleged that a stranger had picked him up from the street, handed him the parcel, and instructed him to deliver it to Mozambique.
He further claimed he was meant to proceed to Brazil after completing the drop-off.
Court Appearance Scheduled
According to IOL, the man was arrested and charged with drug possession. He was expected to appear before the Barberton Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga.
Police say investigations are continuing to establish the origin of the drugs and whether the suspect is linked to a broader trafficking network.
