Man Kills Wife’s Lover Before Turning Gun on Himself in Limpopo
A suspected affair led to a tragic murder-suicide in Lulekani, Limpopo, after a man shot another individual he believed was romantically involved with his wife before turning the gun on himself.
Police Called to Early Morning Shooting
According to IOL, the incident unfolded in the early hours of Saturday at around 5 am in the Lulekani new stands. Police officers who arrived at the scene found the victim lying unresponsive with gunshot wounds.
“Paramedics were called to the scene but declared the man dead,” confirmed Limpopo provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.
Suspect Took His Own Life
According to Ledwaba, the suspect fled the scene after the shooting and went to his parental home in Kurhula. There, he allegedly turned the gun on himself.
“Further investigation indicated that a male individual shot at the victim he accused of having a romantic connection with the wife. Following the shooting incident, the suspect went to his parental home in Kurhula, where he allegedly shot himself in the head, dying instantly,” Ledwaba said.
Firearm and Cartridges Recovered
Police recovered the suspected murder weapon and several spent cartridges at the scene. Investigations revealed that the couple had been experiencing domestic problems prior to the incident.
“The firearm believed to have been used during the commission of the crime and spent cartridges were found at the scene. Investigations further revealed that the suspect and his wife were having domestic troubles. The deceased’s identity is still being withheld pending investigation,” Ledwaba added.
Murder Case and Inquest Opened
Police have since opened a case of murder as well as an inquest docket into the matter. Investigations are ongoing.
