Bobo Mhlongo Hospitalized After Getting Attacked by Mob for Attempting to Kidnap 2-Year-Old Child
Maskandi musician Bobo “Mfana Wepiki” Mhlongo is recovering in a hospital after surviving a violent mob attack in Kagiso, west of Johannesburg.
While Mhlongo survived the attack, he now faces serious legal trouble, with cases of attempted kidnapping and attempted murder opened against him.

Violent Confrontation Over Unpaid Rent
According to the DailySun, the incident took place on Sunday, 13 October, when Mhlongo went to a rental property he owns in Kagiso.
He reportedly sought to collect unpaid rent from his tenants, who had allegedly been withholding payment for some time.
When the tenants failed to pay, Mhlongo allegedly became enraged and took a drastic step. According to witnesses privy to the accident, he took a two-year-old child from the tenant’s home and placed the child in his car, demanding the overdue rent.
Mob Attack and Gunfire
The situation escalated quickly as the tenants screamed for help, alerting the surrounding community. In a tense standoff, angry residents confronted Mhlongo, leading to a violent mob attack. Witnesses claim that Mhlongo fired shots in an attempt to defend himself. However, the crowd overpowered him, disarmed him, and continued their assault until the police intervened.
Police Confirm Attempted Kidnapping and Murder Charges
Gauteng police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo, confirmed the events of the day, stating that both attempted kidnapping and attempted murder charges have been opened against Mhlongo.
“Police have opened an attempted kidnapping and attempted murder case after a maskandi musician allegedly took the child of a tenant he demanded rental money from and fired shots at members of the community in Swaneville, Kagiso, on Sunday,” Masondo explained.
The incident led to an intense confrontation with the community, during which Mhlongo reportedly fired shots.
“The community disarmed and assaulted the suspect. The suspect was rescued by the police and taken to the nearest hospital, where he is currently under police guard. He will be charged with attempted kidnapping and attempted murder,” Masondo added.
