Due to the current COVID-19 cases which have since risen exponentially the country has been reverted to COVID-19 alert level three.
In addition, a night curfew has been imposed starting from 9pm to 6am until the 15th of January next year.
As a result, many artists have been left reeling as the traditional end of year parties which they normally capitalise on are impermissible due to the current COVID-19 restrictions.
Moreover, being found in the streets after the night curfew without a valid reason can lead to six months imprisonment or a fine of not more than R3 000.
The President has since advised people to celebrate the New Year in a different manner by lighting a candle in commemoration of the more than 28 000 people that have since succumbed to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Moreover, despite having made a down payment of the COVID-19 vaccine towards WHO’s COVAX facility, vaccines are most likely to hit the shores of South Africa around August next year with only ten percent of the population likely to be vaccinated with those with comorbidities and front line workers being given first preference.
For now South Africans have been urged to follow the COVID-19 protocols by avoiding large gatherings, masking up, regular washing of hands with soap or a hand sanitizer and maintaining physical distancing.
