A TAXI boss and preacher at the Methodist Church of Southern Africa was gunned down in his house yesterday.

He was found lying in a pool of blood in his kitchen by his wife and son.

The taxi owner, Sandi Mbona from Fordville in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth owned four taxis. He was a member of the Port Elizabeth Distance Taxi Association and a preacher at the Methodist Church of Southern Africa.

When Daily Sun visited his home yesterday a number of mourners, including his colleagues from the taxi industry, were arriving at his house to convey their condolences.

His son Siyabulela Mbona said his father was home alone at the time of the incident.

He said they found him with two bullet wounds, one in his eye and the other in his chest.

Siyabulela said: “We found him at about 6pm. He was lying in a pool of blood. We don’t know who killed him or the motive behind it. My father had no enemies. He was a good man who was loving and very caring. We will miss him dearly.”

A shocked member of the church, Vusumzi Ndamase (66) said they were with Sandi earlier in the day. He said: “On Sundays, we visit families from the church who are in mourning. He was with us when we visited two families who had lost their loved ones just after the two morning services.”

“We were shocked to learn that he was shot dead later in the day. He was our best preacher and a hard worker. It is sad that the church will be bury three of its members in such a short space of time.”

The taxi association leaders were not willing to talk to the SunTeam when we visited them at the taxi rank. Constable Mncedi Mbombo said Sandi was found dead in the kitchen by his wife.

“He had several bullet wounds in his face. The motive for the killing is not yet known but a murder case has been opened,” he said.
