Miss SA 2023: Actress Thuso Mbedu to judge the finale

The Miss South Africa 2023 finale is set to take place on Sunday 13 August at SunBet Arena at Time Square in Pretoria, and one of the judges will be none other than actress Thuso Mbedu.

Mbedu, who is a L’Oréal Paris Sub-Saharan Ambassador, will join the panel of judges who will decide who will be crowned the next Miss SA.

Thuso Mbedu: A L’Oréal Paris Ambassador

Mbedu was announced as a L’Oréal Paris Ambassador in May, joining the likes of Viola Davis, Eva Longoria, and Helen Mirren. She is also the spokesperson for L’Oréal Paris in the Sub-Saharan Africa region.

As a judge, Mbedu will bring her unique perspective and experiences to the competition, encouraging the contestants to embrace their individuality and walk confidently.

L’Oréal Paris said in a press release that Mbedu’s presence will inspire the finalists to focus not only on their external beauty but also on their inner strength and resilience.

Ayanda Mackay, Marketing Manager for L’Oréal Paris Skin and Hair, said that they are honoured to have Mbedu join the Miss SA 2023 judging panel.

“This partnership allows us to support and uplift women as they redefine what it means to be a beauty queen. We believe that when women are empowered, they can achieve anything they set their minds to, and we are thrilled to be a part of this incredible platform,” she said.

Viola Davis congratulates Thuso Mbedu

When Mbedu was announced as a L’Oréal Paris Ambassador, she received a warm welcome from American actress Viola Davis, who is also part of the L’Oréal Paris family.

Davis commented on the Instagram post by L’Oréal Paris, saying: “THUSOOOO!!! BEAUTIFUL!!! Welcome to the family!!! Congratulations ❤️❤️❤️.”

Mbedu is best known for her role as Cora in The Underground Railroad, a series based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Colson Whitehead. She has also received two International Emmy Award nominations for her role as Winnie in Is’Thunzi.
