The Democratic Alliance (DA) is taking heat for giving a thumbs-up to Natasha Joubert’s victory as Miss South Africa 2023.

Natasha Joubert, hailing from Tshwane in Gauteng and aged 26, won the title of Miss SA 2023 on Sunday evening at Sun Bet Arena at Time Squares Menlyn, Tshwane.

DA Congratulates Miss SA 2023 and Sparks Criticism

Naturally, cheers and well-wishes flowed in for Natasha Joubert. However, the DA’s tweet extending its congratulations to her caught the eye of netizens on the Twitter scene.

On their verified Twitter handle, the DA hailed Natasha Joubert’s coronation as Miss South Africa 2023.

“Congratulations to our newly crowned Miss South Africa 2023, Natasha Joubert. #MissSA2023,” penned the DA on its Twitter feed.

South Africans React

A portion of South African Tweeps took offence at the DA’s shout-out to Miss SA 2023. They accused the DA of showing favouritism and brought up past instances where the DA had neglected to congratulate previous Miss South Africa winners due to their skin colour.

Here are some of the comments:

@sthedoingthings:

I like how DA shows itself that it only support white related things. But you’ll find black people going to the polls to vote for it . Then you see where the problem is.

@Sandraboyce19:

She is our Miss SA .. we are happy for her .. I saw so many SAns happy for her.. now all you done just divide us more because of tweets like this. Did you even congratulate others. DA is really tone deaf 🥲 politicians ruin everything 🤞🏽 uyangicasula

@Dijosti:

You should have just safely kept quiet so as not to expose your inconsistencies. No one was going to notice anything.

@Macarth_Ceebo:

You are showing African your true colours,

When it was Zozi, who went on to become Miss Universe, you kept quiet, then came Shudu, you also kept quiet.

Immediately when it’s a white lady, you jump e to congratulate, I don’t know what black people want in your party.

@ThibosAfrika:

Wonder why people are shocked that the racist DA has never congratulated former African Miss SAs
