Mdletshe, who served as the MK Party’s KZN Head of Communications and National Elections Head, was a prominent figure in South African politics. He had recently joined the MK Party in August after resigning from the National Freedom Party (NFP), where he had been secretary-general.

The MK Party confirmed the incident in a statement, describing the accident as a tragic loss for the movement.

The party’s spokesperson, Sipho Tyira, highlighted Mdletshe’s dedication to fighting for the disadvantaged.

uMkhonto wegwala ufela etsheni’ (the coward’s spear dies on a stone). However, commander Mdletshe was no coward. He picked up his spear and fought for the downtrodden and marginalised our people. Umkhonto Wesizwe party salutes his bravery, and may his soul rest in eternal peace,” Tyira said.

Mdletshe’s death comes just months after he left the NFP, a decision driven by his opposition to the party’s coalition with the African National Congress (ANC) and the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the provincial government of unity. His departure marked a significant shift in his political career, as he quickly became a key figure within the MK Party.

A former journalist, Mdletshe was also part of the KZN detachment team led by Willies Mchunu. His contributions to political communications and election strategies were widely acknowledged, both within the MK Party and beyond.

While details of the accident remain unclear, the tragedy has left colleagues and supporters reeling. Tributes have poured in for Mdletshe, with many describing him as a fearless leader and a tireless advocate for justice and equality.

The MK Party has yet to announce funeral arrangements.
