Moses Tembe Denies Involvement in Controversial Book on Anele and AKA

Businessman Moses Tembe has denied any involvement in Melinda Ferguson’s book, “When Love Kills,” which delves into the tragic story of his late daughter Anele and her fiancé, Kiernan “AKA” Forbes, who was killed last year.

According to The South African, Manqoba Zulu, the Tembe family spokesperson, clarified that they had not commissioned nor contributed to the book’s creation. Zulu emphasized that the book represents Ferguson’s personal perspective based on her research.

“The Tembe family did not commission the writing of the book and did not contribute to it in any way. The book is therefore Melinda’s own view based on her own research,” Zulu said.

Zulu also dismissed purported quotes attributed to Tembe in the book, asserting that Tembe did not share such views with Ferguson.

“We have seen some publications referencing quotes from Mr Tembe. We categorically deny that Mr Tembe shared such views with Melinda,” Zulu added.

AKA’s family also released a statement distancing themselves from Ferguson’s book. They stated that they declined Ferguson’s request for contributions and do not endorse or associate with the book’s contents. The Forbes family criticized the timing and intentions behind the book, describing it as “distasteful and opportunistic.”

In a Facebook post on April 11, coinciding with the third anniversary of Anele’s passing, Ferguson announced the imminent release of the book. She expressed the challenges and secrecy involved in its creation.

Anele tragically passed away at 22 after falling from the 10th floor of the Pepper Club Hotel in Cape Town on April 11, 2021, while in the company of AKA. AKA was later murdered in Durban on February 10, 2023. Despite the National Prosecuting Authority’s ruling of Anele’s death as a suicide in 2022, her family disputed these findings. Following AKA’s murder, the matter was referred to the Inquest Court for further investigation.
