Musa Khawula, the well-known yet controversial celebrity blogger, remains behind bars after his court case is postponed again. Khawula made a brief appearance at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, during which his legal team raised significant concerns regarding the confiscation of his cellphone.Khawula’s legal representative, Ofentse Nkwang, emphasized that the phone is crucial for gathering evidence to support his defence. The blogger, dressed in all black with a T-shirt boldly stating “Free Musa,” made a fleeting appearance before the court. His case has now been rescheduled for trial on April 9 and 10, 2025.

Charges Against Musa Khawula

Khawula faces multiple charges, including hate speech, violations of the Cyber Crimes Act of 2020, and crimen injuria. These charges stem from a series of derogatory statements he allegedly made against businessman Ze Nxumalo between October 10 and 12, 2024. The statements are said to have targeted Nxumalo’s dignity, prompting legal action.

As the 33-year-old blogger was asked to step down, he blew kisses at the media, showcasing his characteristic defiance. He will remain in custody until his next court appearance.

In addition to the Randburg case, Khawula appeared for a separate matter before the Fochville Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. He is accused of several serious offences, including attempted murder, reckless driving, and failing to report an accident or seek assistance. These allegations were connected to a vehicle accident near Mponeng Mine on February 20, 2021.

According to reports, Khawula allegedly struck another individual with his car and fled the scene, leaving the injured man stranded on a deserted road. Only after another passing vehicle stopped to offer help did the victim receive assistance.

Legal Team’s Concerns Over Confiscated Phone

Khawula’s legal team has expressed growing concerns over the confiscation of his cellphone, which they claim is vital for his defence. The phone allegedly contains critical information that could influence the case’s outcome. The legal representatives are pushing for its return to ensure a fair trial.

Ofentse Nkwang, Khawula’s attorney, stated,

“The phone holds essential evidence that is necessary for building a robust defence. Its confiscation hampers our ability to present a complete case.”
