Muvhango’s Mpho Reveals How A Scar Almost Derailed Her Acting Career

Actress Azwimmbavhi Rambuda almost failed to make it in the entertainment industry due to her facial birthmark, which some think of as a scar.

Azwimmbavhi who plays the character Mpho, one of the wives of the polygamous Chief Azwindini Mukwevho on SABC 2 soapie Muvhango, was rejected for many roles over the years due to her facial birthmark.

Despite her stunning beautiful looks which saw her being crowned Miss Thohoyandou, many agents passed over the talented actress saying that she would never get any jobs because of her scar.

Narrating her struggles Mpho said,

“I’d get rejected for only one reason. We like you but how do we cover that scar? The question was on the lips of each and every agent I met”,
Whenever she tried to correct the agents by saying that it was actually a birthmark and not a scar, the agents would say,

“Your birthmark won’t get you any jobs, sorry we can’t take you.”

The actress went on to say that it was devastating for her to be told that she could not get a role that she auditioned for because of the facial birthmark.

“To hear all this after years of drama school and performance training killed me inside,” she said.

However, Azwimmbavhi never gave up on herself or on her dreams and continued persevering.
Azwimmbavhi who is a real-life Venda princess auditioned for a number of roles on Muvhango which she failed to land.

Despite the setbacks, she continued auditioning for other roles and eventually landed the role of Mpho.
Since making her debut as the younger, sassy and stylish concubine of Chief Azwindini of Thathe, Azwi has shown that she is a force to reckon with in the entertainment industry.

Azwi is a living embodiment of tenacity, self-belief and talent and we look forward to her powerful performances.
