Popular television actor Nkanyiso Mchunu, best known for his role in My Brother’s Keeper, is currently the subject of a police investigation following serious domestic abuse allegations made by his girlfriend, Masechaba Monnahela.
The couple’s romance began in late 2023 when they met at a mutual friend’s social gathering in Johannesburg. Their relationship quickly became public as they were frequently seen together at high-profile events and celebrity functions throughout 2024.
“What started as a beautiful connection gradually turned into a nightmare,” Monnahela revealed in an exclusive interview. “The physical abuse began when his former partner unexpectedly appeared at his residence.”
Allegations of Physical Abuse
According to Monnahela’s account, the first violent incident occurred in mid-2024 when she discovered Mchunu’s ex-girlfriend from KwaZulu-Natal at his Randburg home. The confrontation allegedly escalated into physical violence, marking the beginning of a pattern of abuse.

The slapping and intimidation became more frequent after that initial incident.”
Recent Escalation and Police Involvement
The most recent altercation reportedly occurred over the past weekend when Monnahela discovered Mchunu might be romantically involved with a crew member from the production Ithonga. The argument allegedly turned violent, prompting Monnahela to file formal charges.
“This wasn’t an isolated incident,” Monnahela emphasized. “He’s attempted to portray me as unstable, but the truth is I’ve endured multiple violent encounters, including one where he threatened me with a knife.”
Police Confirm Ongoing Investigation
Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi verified that a domestic violence case was initially registered at Diepsloot Police Station before being transferred to Honeydew police station for further investigation.

“The matter is currently under active investigation,” Colonel Nevhuhulwi stated. “We take all domestic violence allegations seriously and are following proper procedures.”
Mchunu’s Response to Allegations
When approached for comment, the actor declined to discuss the specifics of the case.
“I cannot provide any statement at this time as the matter is now with law enforcement,” Mchunu told reporters.
