Home Affairs Cancels Miss Universe Nigeria Chidimma Adetshina and Mother’s IDs Amid Fraud Allegations
In a significant development, the South African Home Affairs Department has announced the cancellation of identity documents and travel papers for Miss Universe Nigeria Chidimma Adetshina and her mother over have been cancelled by South Africa over fraud allegations.
This decision follows the duo’s failure to meet a mandated deadline to provide reasons for retaining their South African national documents.
The news about Home Affairs revoking Chidimma and her mother’s ID’s and travel documents has been met with widespread excitement and celebration from South Africans.
Home Affairs Confirms Completion of Investigation
The Home Affairs Department shared that their investigation, which has now concluded, raised suspicions regarding the legitimacy of the documents held by Adetshina and her mother. Makhode explained that authorities attempted to locate Adetshina’s mother at a registered South African address but could not find her.
“Officials visited a house registered to Adetshina to track down her mother. The department has also completed investigations and handed it over to the Hawks,” Makhode noted, adding that the absence of a response further supported the decision to cancel their documents.
Acting Deputy Director-General for Immigration Albert Matsaung revealed that they couldn’t locate any recent record of the mother’s passport movements in their systems.
Matsaung indicated that the mother had reportedly entered South Africa from Mozambique but traveled to Nigeria to support her daughter’s participation in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, which Adetshina won.
“We can’t explain how Adetshina’s mother may have travelled to Nigeria last month to support her daughter at Miss Universe Nigeria pageant which she won,” Makhode said.
Fraud Charges and Further Investigation by Hawks
With the cancellation of their documents, the spotlight now turns to the possible legal repercussions the duo could face. Makhode mentioned that the Home Affairs Department had escalated the matter, including all investigation findings, to the Hawks for further examination and possible fraud charges.
