Mzansi Celebrates as White Businessman Is Arrested For Defrauding DRC of Millions in Election Scandal

A section of netizensis celebrating the arrest of Jonathan Wolpe, a white South African businessman, for allegedly defrauding the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) government out of millions of rands.

Wolpe, CEO of United Aviation Group, was apprehended by the Hawks on Monday, facing charges of fraud related to a failed contract for the DRC’s presidential elections.

SA Aviation Tycoon Jonathan Wolpe Was Arrested

Wolpe had been contracted to provide private helicopters for the DRC’s December presidential elections, ensuring the transport of delegates across the vast country. However, after receiving a $60,000 deposit (equivalent to R9 million), Wolpe failed to deliver on his end of the deal, leaving the DRC empty-handed.

Compounding the controversy, two South African pilots hired by Wolpe were reportedly held in the DRC against their will for weeks last year due to the fallout from his actions.

Lloyd Ramovha, spokesperson for the Hawks, confirmed Wolpe’s arrest and the charges against him and his company, United Chartered Flight Services.

“On this fraudulent activity resulted in the complainant suffering a financial loss of R9,000,000. On Monday, we arrested the director of United Chartered Flight Services, this is in respect of fraud amounting to over R9 million,” Ramovha said.

Wolpe is set to appear in the Johannesburg Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Palm Ridge on Wednesday for his formal bail application.
