Mzansi Erupts with Reactions After Drug Dealing Suspects Use Pythons to Scare Off Police in Rabie Ridge Raid
In a scene reminiscent of a movie, two drug dealing suspects used three pythons to scare off officers from the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) during a raid in Rabie Ridge, near Tembisa, on Friday.
Acting on a tip-off regarding alleged drug activity, the police entered a property but were met with an unusual form of resistance.
Police Raid Interrupted as Snakes Are Released
EMPD officers, acting on a community tip-off, raided a residence suspected of drug activity.
According to local residents, the suspects released three pythons, prompting the officers to flee the scene in fear. Witnesses reported seeing the officers taken by surprise as the snakes moved toward them, which led the EMPD to call in additional reinforcements.
Reinforcements and SPCA Snake Handlers Called to the Scene
Police spokesperson Thabiso Makgato confirmed the need for additional police support due to the presence of the snakes.
She stated that two suspects, aged 23 and 28, were ultimately arrested, although the delay allowed others on the property to evade capture.
The two detained suspects are currently held at the Rabie Ridge Police Station, where they face charges connected to drug dealing and possession of stolen property. The EMPD also requested assistance from the SPCA to safely remove and handle the pythons.
Meanwhile, in addition to the pythons, police discovered parts of a stolen vehicle on the property.
Police Call on Community to Help Track Remaining Suspects
Following the raid, authorities appealed to Rabie Ridge residents to provide any information that might assist in locating the remaining suspects. Makgato further urged the community to cooperate.
Social Media Reacts to the Python Incident
News of the raid and the unusual tactics used by the suspects quickly spread across social media, sparking both shock and intrigue. Many users found it humorous that the police fled the scene after getting intimidated by the snake. Others argued that the police force in South Africa is a joke. They opined that should have just shot the snakes and the suspects instead of running away.
