The daylight robbery unfolded at around 3:30 PM on one of Bulawayo’s busy streets. The Safeguard van had just collected the cash in metal boxes from the Ecobank branch located at the NRZ Building on the corner of Fife Street and 9th Avenue. It was then that the six masked robbers, armed with AK47 rifles, swiftly surrounded the truck and overpowered the guards.

Videos and photos captured by afternoon shoppers show the robbers, who were wearing face masks and bucket hats, loading the cash-filled boxes into the open cargo bay of a white Ford Ranger. The vehicle then sped away down Fife Street towards 10th Avenue.
