It’s A Feminist Thing, which is South Africa’s first feminist talk show produced by the civic organization lobby group, Soul City Institute for Social Justice, has promised viewers to brace up for more intricate and eye-opening discussions.

The show which premiered on SABC 2 on Sunday at 18h30 focuses on issues that affect women which are being exacerbated by the patriarchal society and how they can be rectified. Soul City Institute for Social Justice’s Phinah Kodisang said:

“It’s going to give women a platform to raise their voices and air the injustices they are facing. We want to educate women. Men have been dominating us for a while and that has to change.

“Moreover, people have a misconception that feminism is only about women it’s holistic even men can be feminists because the agenda is about dismantling the patriarchy. Moreso, we need to ensure that the curriculum in schools should be reformed and include feminism even in our homes and churches.”

In addition, Kgomotso Matsunyane, one of the co-presenters said the show was there to address the patriarchal imbalances which are having a toil on women.

“Feminism is something which is there to address the imbalances. We need to address the imbalances that patriarchy befalls upon us and of course man have to come on the table as much as they are much of the problem.

Moreover, this coming Sunday, we are talking about patriarchy how it affects women and how it becomes they are 8 more episodes that are coming, it’s a national conversation and we need to try and find an everlasting solution,” said Kgomotso.

South Africa has one of the highest levels of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the world with a woman succumbing to GBV every 30 minutes.

However, the government has since tried to curb this by increasing rapid police responses and partnering with civic organizations in averting the crisis something which is yet to bear results.
