Nambitha Ben-Mazwi, affectionately known as ‘Lady Nam,’ was born on the 1st of December 1988. As of 2023, she is 35 years old.

Early Life

Born in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, South Africa, Nambitha Ben-Mazwi’s upbringing was deeply influenced by her parents’ emphasis on humility and hard work.

Her late uncle, Winston Ntshona, a fellow performer alongside theatre luminaries like Dr. John Kani, played a pivotal role in cultivating her passion for the arts.

Fondly referred to as Nampo by family and close friends, Lady Nam’s journey in the arts began when she joined the Eastern Cape Children’s Choir at the age of 12, affording her the opportunity to tour Europe. This early exposure led her to explore musicals, where her talents in both singing and acting shone.

Education

Nambitha Ben-Mazwi attended Collegiate Girls High School before pursuing a Small Business Management Diploma at Russell Road College in Port Elizabeth in 2005.

She furthered her studies at the University of Cape Town, earning a Degree in Business Science in 2009 and an Honours degree in 2010.

Acting Career

Early Roles and International Ventures

Following her academic achievements, Nambitha Ben-Mazwi entered the world of acting, earning acclaim for her versatile performances. Her breakout role came as Unathi Mweli in the Mzansi Magic series Doubt, where she portrayed the sister of a man accused of a stripper’s murder.

Her journey took her to New York, where she played the character Tamara in the drama series Black Mirror, a role based on the UK show of the same name.

Returning to South Africa, Nambitha continued her career’s upward trajectory. She secured a wildcard entry in the reality competition Presenter Search on 3, which marked a significant achievement.

2021 saw her return to her love of hosting and TV presenting, on Super Sport TV, as the BrightRock Players Choice Awards 2021 rugby host. Locally, she stole the hearts of South Africans on the small screen through her trending roles on The Queen, The Estate, Scandal, and Broken Vows.

Nambitha Ben-Mazwi garnered international recognition by being handpicked by Beyoncé to feature in the groundbreaking musical album “Black Is King.” This project held deep significance for Nambitha, aligning with her advocacy for ‘dark skin magic’ and representation for marginalized individuals.
