Nigerian Man Arrested As Police Seize Drugs, Cash And Equipment Worth Over R440 000
A Nigerian national is expected to appear in court after police arrested him during an operation that led to the seizure of drugs, cash and equipment valued at more than R440,000. The arrest took place on 3 June 2026 in KwaZulu-Natal following an intelligence-driven operation involving several specialised law enforcement units.
Senior reporter Dasen Thathiah of eNCA reported that the suspect was initially found in Lamontville and was allegedly in possession of cocaine.
According to Dasen Thathiah, the suspect is believed to be linked to drug dealing activities in several Durban areas.
In a post shared on X on 3 June 2026, Thathiah said:
“Police have arrested a foreign national and recovered over R440 000 in drugs and other items in an operation this evening.”
He added:
“The Nigerian man was found in Lamontville, allegedly with cocaine.”
Police Discover More Drugs In Umbilo
Following his arrest, police reportedly questioned the suspect before taking the investigation further.
Thathiah stated that the man allegedly led investigators to a flat in Umbilo, where officers made additional discoveries.
He wrote:
“After he was interrogated, he led the team – consisting of the SAPS Economic Infrastructure Task Team, Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit, SAPS eThekwini District and Excellerate K9 Unit – to his flat in Umbilo.”
Police allegedly found crystal methamphetamine, equipment believed to be used in drug manufacturing, and cash at the property.
Thathiah said:
“There, officers found crystal meth, drug manufacturing equipment and cash.”
Authorities also confiscated the suspect’s passport and vehicle as part of the investigation.
According to Thathiah:
“The suspect’s passport and vehicle were also confiscated.”
No further details regarding the exact quantities of drugs recovered or the identity of the suspect had been released at the time of publication.
