Nollywood Actor Odira Nwobu Dies Suddenly in South Africa at 43
Nollywood actor Odira Nwobu has died in South Africa at the age of 43.
His lawyer, Chukwujiekwu Chukwudi, and the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria (AGN) confirmed the news, saying the actor passed away on Monday, 24 November 2025, while staying at a hotel in Benoni, Johannesburg.
Final Moments Before His Collapse
According to his lawyer, Nwobu had spent the evening out with colleagues before returning to his room.
Later, he was reportedly found in severe distress and struggling to breathe.
Emergency services were called, and paramedics attempted to revive him using a defibrillator, but “Odira died at the scene,” Chukwudi said.
The actor was alone at the time of the medical emergency.
Authorities are still awaiting the results of a postmortem to determine the cause of death.

Reason for His South Africa Trip
AGN President Emeka Rollas explained that Nwobu was in South Africa for a business engagement.
He had travelled with a group of influencers as part of a promotional project for a Nigerian-owned real estate company.
His lawyer had joined the team in an official advisory role.
