Suspects Shoot Off-Duty JMPD Officer After Removing Girlfriend From Car
An off-duty Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officer was shot dead after suspects allegedly forced his girlfriend out of a vehicle before opening fire in Orange Farm, south of Johannesburg, on Tuesday, 14 April 2026.
The shocking incident has sparked an urgent police investigation, with authorities confirming that no arrests have yet been made and the motive remains unclear.
According to Justice, Crime Prevention and Security, the fatal shooting took place at Extension 6A in Orange Farm.
“The police in Orange Farm have opened a case of murder following a shooting incident that occurred at Extension 6A in Orange Farm,” Justice, Crime Prevention and Security posted on 14 April 2026.
“According to preliminary information, it is alleged that an off-duty member of the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) was seated inside a motor vehicle with his girlfriend when an unknown number of suspects approached them.”
“The suspects allegedly removed the girlfriend from the vehicle and thereafter shot the JMPD member before fleeing the scene on foot.”
Authorities confirmed that the officer died at the scene.
“He was certified dead on scene. The circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation and no arrests have been made at this stage.”
