Peter Drury Makes Dream Come True For Kenyan Comedian Arap Uria At World Cup 2022

Indeed it was a dream come true for the Kenyan comedian Arap Uria who met with the iconic football commentator Peter Drury at the ongoing global showpiece in Qatar.

Arap Uria, whose real name is Meshack Kiprop, is a famous comedian widely known for mimicking Peter Drury’s poetic and sensational commentary lines and posting them on social media.

Having touched down in Qatar on Friday for the World Cup, Arap took it as a chance to meet the modern-day “Shakespeare” of football.

To meet the veteran wordsmith, Drury, Arap Uria posted a picture of himself outside the stadium holding a placard emblazoned:

“Hello, Peter Drury, it’s Arap Uria, I am in Qatar, and I would love to meet you,”

The tweet captured the attention of another world’s famous football commentator Jim Belgin who is Drury’s compatriot in the commentary booth.

After coming across the Kenyan comedian’s message, Jim Belgin orchestrated for the two, Drury and Arap, to meet. And hours later, Arap took to Twitter sharing pictures with Peter Drury having a nice time together.

He captioned the post:

“Gooooal!!!. “Finally, with Peter Drury. Many thanks.”

Arap, based in Kenya’s Rift Valley town of Eldoret, rose to fame through lip-syncing video clips of various Kenyan politicians before shifting to mimicking Peter Drury.

In 2018, Arap made a clip imitating Drury’s commentary lines of the UEFA Champion League fixture between AS Roma and Barcelona in which the Italian side made an astonishing and historic comeback against the Laliga giants.

The skit went viral on various social media platforms. In no time, it captured the attention of Drury, who even shared a video praising Arap for his exceptional lip-syncing skills.

“Arap, it’s Peter here. I really wish I could be with you today. It’s so frustrating that I am here in Doha to witness the World Cup draw. Listen, I love what you do. I hope you are laughing with me and not at me,” the 55-year-old said in an April video.

“I must say I am certainly laughing with you. It’s terrifyingly funny, and it’s superb. Football shouldn’t be taken too seriously. With all the passion you show for it, I do love your work, and I hope one day we might get to meet each other face to face and you can teach me how to commentate.”

Meanwhile, Arap is among thousands of fans who thronged Qatar to witness this year’s FIFA World Cup and his trip was facilitated by an online sports betting company, Betikake.
