South Africans are in an uproar following serious allegations against Sandile Ntshalintshali, a high-ranking official at the South African Council for Educators (SACE). Ntshalintshali, who heads SACE’s Legal and Ethics Department, is accused of sending unwelcome sexual messages to SACE female workers.

The irony of the situation has not been lost on the public, as Ntshalintshali is supposed to uphold the highest ethical standards in his role. Instead, it appears that he may be breaching the very code of conduct he is tasked with enforcing.

SACE’s Dismissal of Harassment Allegations

One of Ntshalintshali’s alleged victims took a bold step by leaking a WhatsApp conversation in a last-ditch effort to expose his behaviour. This move came after her formal complaints, along with those of others, were dismissed by SACE.

To make matters worse, SACE allegedly forced these women to sign nondisclosure agreements, potentially as a means of protecting Ntshalintshali from further scrutiny.

In a communication dated September 6, 2024, SACE Corporate Manager Mr M. Raphasha informed one of the victims that an independent investigation by M Chuene Attorneys Incorporated found no grounds for disciplinary action. According to the letter, there was a “lack of evidence” to support misconduct charges.

SACE Ethics Chief Exposed for Sending Explicit Messages

In the leaked WhatsApp exchange, Ntshalintshali lures the unnamed woman into a conversation by claiming he had a dream. When she asks about it, he initially responds with a shy “see no evil” bear emoji before sending stickers of heterosexual couples having relations. You can view the messages here.

After the conversation was leaked on X (formerly Twitter) by user @Am_Blujay, public outrage exploded. Many South Africans expressed their disgust at the situation, criticizing both Ntshalintshali’s actions and SACE’s handling of the complaints. Social media users also advised the woman to take the matter to the Labour Court, where they believed her case would stand a better chance of being heard. Here’s what some had to say:

@WaNkwatisa:

The irony of it all.🤔 So someone in charge of ethics dept is accused of lacking in the same ethics he is supposed to manage in others?🤔

@mczmot:

Wow, the very SACE that is supposed to protect teachers and learners against such!!! Wow, I guess he claimed that was not his cell number because that can only be the reason they can say not enough evidence. If not, bayanyanyisa.

@PhumzDN:

It is definitely his cell number. Checked with Truecaller

@ManziniSimand:

A whole father posting porn is embarrassing 🤦🏼🤦🏼🤦🏼

@mdaka69:

Labour court handles this type of problems when employers fail their employees. She must take legal counsel on this matter.
