It has been more than a year since Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa was murdered in Vosloorus.
Now it seems like the police have finally made a breakthrough in their investigations.
According to Independent online. The recent reconstruction of the crime scene has given the police some light into the case.
“It paid off as we got new leads. We’ve got two suspects under the spotlight and a breakthrough in imminent,” a source told the website.
This comes after the Hawks brought in senior investigators to reconstruct the Meyiwa shooting incident.
Meyiwa was shot in an alleged armed robbery gone wrong at around 8pm in the home of Kelly Khumalo’s mother house in Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg on October 26.
He was shot in the back during a scuffle, allegedly with the robbers.
A reward of R250 000 was offered to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest and conviction. The following week, police released 3D identikits of two suspects who are believed to be involved in the shooting as well as questioned a number of people in connection with the case.
On October 30, a man was arrested after he was reportedly identified by a witness during an identity parade. On November 11, the charges against the suspect were provisionally withdrawn due to lack of evidence. He was in custody for two weeks. Upon release he fled Vosloorus opting for KwaZulu- Natal as he feared persecution by the public.
It has been reported that he has since returned. During a media briefing in December, police said they were still investigating and were hoping to make an arrest soon.
