A Polokwane man was arrested after he hacks his 87-year-old mother to death at his parents’ home.
Police in Limpopo made a horrific discovery this weekend when responding to a welfare check at a residence in Sebora Village.

Police spokesperson Captain Marius McCarthy described the scene as “deeply traumatic,” noting that evidence suggested the killing occurred within the residence. Investigators recovered what they believe to be the weapons used in the brutal attack.

The victim’s 40-year-old son was taken into custody after failing to provide credible information about his mother’s whereabouts or the grisly discovery. While the exact motive remains unclear, authorities confirmed the suspect will face murder charges.
Limpopo Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe expressed outrage at the incident, stating:
“This horrific act demonstrates the urgent need for society to address violence against vulnerable community members. We must collectively combat these atrocities.”
Legal Proceedings Begin
The accused is scheduled to appear in court for the first time at Seshego Magistrate’s Court on Monday. If convicted, he could face life imprisonment for the alleged matricide.
