President Cyril Ramaphosa has finally addressed his recent US visit, following backlash from South Africans and other politicians.

Addressing claims that the South African delegation was unexpectedly called to the meeting, Ramaphosa emphasised that his administration proactively arranged the visit.
“Contrary to some narratives, this was not a summons but a strategic initiative from our side,” the President stated during a briefing in Pretoria.

He revealed preliminary communication with the US administration weeks before the encounter:
“I personally requested the meeting to discuss matters of mutual importance, and the White House accommodated our proposed timing.”

“When engaging with major partners like the US, our focus remains on creating opportunities for South African workers and businesses,” Ramaphosa explained.
He confirmed plans for continued diplomatic outreach, noting: “This forms part of our broader strategy to reinforce relationships with all nations that impact our economic landscape and global standing.”
Addressing Controversial Pre-Meeting Context
The visit followed previous diplomatic tensions stemming from comments about South Africa’s domestic affairs. Ramaphosa positioned the face-to-face dialogue as an opportunity to foster clearer communication channels between the two nations.
